Email Fraud Warning

BMW Group Canada will never ask you to send or confirm personal information by email, including but not limited to: your name, address, passwords or financial information. If you receive an email from someone purporting to be BMW, or a division of BMW, i.e. the Security Department or Lottery Department, or any other suspicious communications asking for this type of information, DO NOT RESPOND TO IT. We believe that these unauthorized and fraudlent communications are “phishing” emails, the sole purpose of which is to obtain your personal information for illegal purposes. As a safeguard, we recommend you add the sender to your blocked email or SPAM email list.

  

These fraudulent emails evolve constantly, changing certain elements of the alleged promotion and locations to elude prosecution. Some recent fraudulent emails include:

 

Email from 'John Bailey or Thom Laden from The BMW Marketing Department'
You may have received an email claiming to be from BMW's Marketing Department stating that you are the winner of our 2014 BMW M3 Facebook Contest. Please be informed that BMW Canada is not conducting a 2014 M3 Facebook Contest. This is a fraudulent email. DO NOT RESPOND TO IT.

 

Email from 'The International Awareness Promotion Department of the BMW Automobile Company'
You may have received an email claiming to be from BMW's International Awareness Promotion Department stating that you have won a prize.

 

Email from 'BMW USA Security Department Assistant'
You may have received an email claiming to be from BMW USA Security Department Assistant stating that you have to click on a link to confirm your account within 24 hours for security reasons or else your account will be suspended.

 

Email from 'BMW's Lottery Department'
You may have received an email claiming to be from BMW's Lottery Department stating that you have won a prize.

 

Email from 'BMW Grand Promotions UK'
You may have received an email claiming to be from BMW Grand Promotions UK stating that you have won a prize.

 

Email from 'BMW Group Promo'
You may have received an email claiming to be from BMW Group Promo stating that you have won a prize.

  

Email RE: CONTACT THE RESERVE BANK OF INDIA FOR YOUR WON PRICE AND FILL THE FORM IMMEDIATELY
You may have received an email claiming to be from the BMW Auto Mobile Company notifing you that after the verification and confirmation exercise, a cheque of Five Hundred Thousand Great Britain Pounds Sterlings has been issued in your name and transferred to the Reserve Bank of India in your country.

 

Once again we caution you to NOT RESPOND TO ANY SUSPICIOUS EMAILS purporting to be from BMW or any of its affiliates or any suspicious email communications asking for your personal information.
